Ministry is a holistic response to God’s call; in this sense ministry is both personal and vocational. After his resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven and gave gifts to humanity (Gal. 4:8). He gave some apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers. (Gal. 4:11). The purpose of giving the ministry gifts which Christ gave to the Church is for (1) equipping God’s people for works of service, and (2) the spiritual growth and development of the body of Christ.

Christ is the head of the body, the Church, which has many members who have various functions (I Cor. 12). A body is not an “organization” but an “organism.” A body has many parts and each part has a vital function within the body. In the Church, the function of each member can be called “ministry.”

As a person is greater than the sum of his body parts, so is the Church greater than the sum of its members. As it fulfills God’s purposes in the world, the Church’s ministry is greater than the sum of the ministries of its members.

God has placed the Church in the world for his own purposes. Ministry can be made effective only by the enabling, empowering presence and work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus claimed that the “Spirit of the Lord is upon me” and he acted in that power. He also instructed his disciple to “tarry in Jerusalem...and you shall recieve power after the Holy Spirit is come upon you and you shall be witnesses unto me  both in Jerusalem and in all Judea , and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” In other words, they were empowered for ministry. There is no successful ministry without the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we must allow the Holy Spirit to move in and through our lives while we work in the ministry of the kingdom.

Greater Cornerstone Church offers many different types of ministry opportunities. Please contact the Director of the ministry area(s) of the church in which you would like to share your time and talents.
